ABOUT OUR CLASS
This is an ESL class for grade 5 students wishing to improve their reading and writing by blogging about what they read. We have created this class blog where I post assignments and where each student is allowed to have their own blog page so they can create blog posts about the current book they are reading.
In our class we will be using free-writing and brainstorming to generate ideas, as well as learning to organize our ideas into a coherent and concise blog post. We will follow the 5 paragraph essay theme to help keep our writing organized.
The most important thing we need to keep in mind when writing is our purpose and our audience:
When we keep this in mind it will be easier to write when we know there is someone on the other end who will be reading it. With that in mind, since our class is so small, we will try to share our blogs with other classes around the world in order to create a network of bloggers sharing ideas and commenting on each other’s writing.
Also, during this term we will be focusing on grammar, sentence structure and learning to use connectors such as and, although, but, etc. to write good sentences. We will also use a grammar book, English Smart Grade 5 and go through it to learn about the parts of speech we use in writing, such as nouns, verbs, etc. Each student will be given a book to work through both in class and on their own.
I hope this class will produce a love of writing and blogging for my students and that they will learn to use technology to share their ideas by writing well.
My name is Mrs P; private teacher for this class.
